At Stage 1 Music, we provide instruction to musicians at all stages of their development. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or you’re a seasoned player, our experienced teachers can help you learn a new instrument, work out that song you’ve been wanting to play, or learn the styles of your favorite musicians.

Our teachers have years of recording and touring experience as well as degrees from some of the top music schools in the country. They can teach in a wide variety of styles and levels of expertise. Check out our teachers’ profiles or call us at 805.522.2166 and we’ll recommend the best teacher for your interests.

Individual Lessons

With private lessons, our teachers can tailor the lessons to your specific interests. We offer lessons 7 days a week, so you can choose a day and time that works for you. We teach guitar, bass, piano, drums, vocals, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, clarinet, saxophone, violin and viola. Lessons are $25 per half hour and are held in our studios.

Group Lessons

For many players, a good initial step is to take group lessons. We offer beginning group lessons to introduce you to a new instrument in a fun environment. We currently offer group classes in vocals, taught by Leota Penney, piano, taught by Chrys Berri and guitar, taught by Jon Bellis. Let us know if you’re interested in a different type of group class or have a group of 3-5 where we can look into creating one just for you! Group lessons are $20 per student per hour.

Rock Band

Our rock band program is called BORN TO ROCK and brings together kids with some proficiency in rock instruments to form a band, comprised of guitar, drums, bass, vocals and piano. After the 8 week rehearsal period, they perform at a professional venue for their family, friends and general public. This is an exceptional tool for encouraging these young performers to continue to grow as a team, focus on their music and talent, and provides a fully rewarding experience for them. Since 2009, each of these shows have been wildly successful, and many of the kids who began the program are still together as a band today.
