The Electro-Harmonix Nano Battalion is an all-analog bass preamp and overdrive pedal that offers a powerful arsenal of bass tones in a small, durable chassis. Due to widespread demand, Electro-Harmonix is now providing the big brother of the Battalion, the Nano Battalion, in a single-wide stompbox size factor that is suitable for pedalboards. The Nano Battalion’s flexible MOSFET drive circuit offers anything from mild overdrive to intense, saturated distortion, and its three-band EQ (with three EQ position modes) provides you the most freedom and control over sound creation. Additionally, the Nano provides three signal flow modes that produce distinctive tone changes.
The Electro-Harmonix Nano Battalion’s 3-band EQ features shelving boost and cut controls for the Treble (1kHz knee) and Bass (200Hz knee), as well as a Mid switch that offers 9dB of boost or cut at 500Hz. Where the EQ is applied is determined by three signal flow modes. In distortion mode, the EQ follows the distorted signal and significantly affects its timbre while having no influence on the clean signal. The EQ is the initial component in the signal pipeline in input mode, and it has an impact on both clean and distorted signals. In this mode, increasing the frequency can cause the distortion to become more saturated. When in Dry mode, the EQ only affects the clean signal; the distorted signal is unaffected.
1/4″ input and output jacks are included with the Electro-Harmonix Nano Battalion. A balanced signal is sent when a TS cable is inserted into the output jack. A TRS cable produces a balanced signal when it is plugged in that may be directly injected into an audio interface or recording console. Compromises must always be made when reducing the size of a superb bass preamp/drive pedal like the Battalion, but Electro-Harmonix made the right choices with the Nano Battalion. They wisely decided to exclude the Battalion’s compression circuitry in order to reduce space because many bassists already own a compressor pedal. However, they were able to cram the original’s powerful punch and tonal diversity into a little stompbox that can fit in your tour bag. Impressive, for sure!
